Over the course of 2020, there have been lots of reasons to snack: boredom, stress and, well, because that bag of crisps is there and you can. And hey, we don’t blame you - after all, we’re firm believers that snacking gets a far worse reputation than it deserves.
Instead of adding quit snacking to your list of New Year’s Resolutions, why not become part of the healthier snacking revolution? That means you won’t have to deprive yourself of a tasty treat between meals - just think about avoiding the chocolate biscuits and picking up a healthy snack instead.

Practise Mindful Snacking
Avoid doing something else while you’re snacking - for example, don’t snack while watching TV or working. Take a break from whatever you’re doing and focus on your food, like you would if you were eating a full meal. This will help you from overeating. It’s easy to accidentally consume an extra 200 calories just because you weren’t paying attention.
Keep some portable healthy snacks in your handbag or pockets if you know you’re going to be out of the house for a while. That way, should hunger strike you won’t feel so tempted by the next coffee shop or fast food outlet you see - you can just reach for the snack you brought with you, which is better for you AND your wallet.
High-Low is the Way to Go
Try a high-low combination of ingredients for your next snack and you’re onto a winner. By this we mean a small amount of food with healthy fats (like peanut butter) and a larger portion of a lighter option (like celery or apple slices). Yum!
Be a Nut
Or should we say, eat a nut. Seeds and unsalted nuts make for a great nibble and they’re good for you - they’ve got lots of beneficial nutrients and, unlike those crisps we mentioned earlier, will keep you fuller for longer. Just be careful of portion sizes, because nuts are calorific.
